A new leader, a wider war

1941 was a turning point. John Curtin became Prime Minister in October, steering the nation through one of its most testing years. Australian troops were dug in at Tobruk, earning the nickname "The Rats of Tobruk" for their stubborn defence against Rommel's forces, while half a world away, the bombing of Pearl Harbor in December drew Japan into the war and changed everything for Australia's own sense of security. It was a year that asked a great deal of ordinary Australians, and they answered. Give the gift of this remarkable year — beautifully captured in a personalised newspaper front page that brings 1941 back to life.

Key Highlights for This Year

  • John Curtin became Prime Minister of Australia
  • Australian troops held firm through the siege of Tobruk
  • Japan's entry into WWII after Pearl Harbor brought the war to Australia's doorstep

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I change the headline?

Yes - you're welcome to reword the headline. Our only recommendation is to keep the total number of characters similar to avoid the font getting too big or too small and not looking great.

Can I change the personalisation after ordering?

You'll receive a digital artwork the next business day.

If you need to make any tweaks let us know and we'll adjust your file.

Do I need to upload a black and white photo?

No - a colour photo can be uploaded. We will convert it to black and white when we prepare your file so it's similar to the photos shown in the product listing.

Do I need a scanner?

No. If you need to digitalise an old photo, a photograph taken of the original with a smartphone is a great option if you don't have access to a scanner.

Remember to take your photo in a room with good natural light to help avoid shadows.

How many pixels should my photo be?

Ideally 1,200 pixels x 1,600 pixels or larger

Is a personal message required?

No - the personal message at the bottom of the print is completely optional.

My old photo has some dust and scratches, will it work?

Yes. We touch up older photos in Photoshop at no charge as part of our service.
