Turning the tide

1944 carried the first real sense that the war might be won. Allied forces stormed the beaches of Normandy on D-Day in June, a moment that reverberated through every household in Australia, while Australian troops kept up the fight through New Guinea and Bougainville. At home, rationing and shortages remained a daily reality, but there was a new mood in the air — one of cautious hope that peace was finally within reach. Give the gift of this remarkable year — beautifully captured in a personalised newspaper front page that brings 1944 back to life.

Key Highlights for This Year

  • Allied forces landed in Normandy on D-Day, turning the course of the war
  • Australian troops continued fighting through New Guinea and Bougainville
  • Wartime rationing remained a daily reality for Australian families

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I change the headline?

Yes - you're welcome to reword the headline. Our only recommendation is to keep the total number of characters similar to avoid the font getting too big or too small and not looking great.

Can I change the personalisation after ordering?

You'll receive a digital artwork the next business day.

If you need to make any tweaks let us know and we'll adjust your file.

Do I need to upload a black and white photo?

No - a colour photo can be uploaded. We will convert it to black and white when we prepare your file so it's similar to the photos shown in the product listing.

Do I need a scanner?

No. If you need to digitalise an old photo, a photograph taken of the original with a smartphone is a great option if you don't have access to a scanner.

Remember to take your photo in a room with good natural light to help avoid shadows.

How many pixels should my photo be?

Ideally 1,200 pixels x 1,600 pixels or larger

Is a personal message required?

No - the personal message at the bottom of the print is completely optional.

My old photo has some dust and scratches, will it work?

Yes. We touch up older photos in Photoshop at no charge as part of our service.
