A year of reckoning and resolve

1996 was one of the most consequential years in modern Australian history. John Howard led the Liberal-National coalition to a commanding federal election victory in March, ending thirteen years of Labor government. Just weeks later, the Port Arthur tragedy shocked the nation to its core, and Howard's swift national gun reform legislation — brought in within twelve days — became one of the most decisive acts of peacetime governance Australia had ever seen. In Atlanta, Cathy Freeman lit up the Olympics, planting a flag that carried the hopes of a country still reckoning with its past. Give the gift of this remarkable year — beautifully captured in a personalised newspaper front page that brings 1996 back to life.

Key Highlights for This Year

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I change the headline?

Yes - you're welcome to reword the headline. Our only recommendation is to keep the total number of characters similar to avoid the font getting too big or too small and not looking great.

Can I change the personalisation after ordering?

You'll receive a digital artwork the next business day.

If you need to make any tweaks let us know and we'll adjust your file.

Do I need to upload a black and white photo?

No - a colour photo can be uploaded. We will convert it to black and white when we prepare your file so it's similar to the photos shown in the product listing.

Do I need a scanner?

No. If you need to digitalise an old photo, a photograph taken of the original with a smartphone is a great option if you don't have access to a scanner.

Remember to take your photo in a room with good natural light to help avoid shadows.

How many pixels should my photo be?

Ideally 1,200 pixels x 1,600 pixels or larger

Is a personal message required?

No - the personal message at the bottom of the print is completely optional.

My old photo has some dust and scratches, will it work?

Yes. We touch up older photos in Photoshop at no charge as part of our service.
